Cinema in corte is the new project of Dimora delle Balze, for the whole month of August, two evenings a week, you can enjoy a film in the original language. The selection of the programme was entrusted to two contemporary art artists; their installations are now on display at Fondazione Merz, a renowned Italian art foundation.

Nina Carini and Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson have chosen eight titles for the occasion – the themes involved belong to their current research.

INTIME, Nina Carini
The Italian contemporary art artist Nina Carini, in support of the project Cinema in Corte, chooses the theme of the relationship in human relations, focusing on four titles of authors that explain its meaning in different facets.

Through the study of the philosopher and essayist Francois Jullien, the artist dwells on the text “On Intimacy” (2014) in which the word – Intimo- takes the leading role.

“To the discreet path of intimacy, so different from the fractious one of love, François Jullien turns his attention here, mobilising Homer and Saint Augustine but also Stendhal and Simenon to give strength to his position. While love, with its declarations and its rages, constantly risks imposture, intimacy is the space of our authenticity and allows us to construct a perennial “we”: the deepest in each of us is only revealed through a relationship, through going outside of oneself”.

ON GEOLOGICAL TIME, Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson
Paris-based filmmakers and artists, their practice often makes use of cinema in an expanded form to reactivate archives and lost or forgotten histories to create new ways of collective viewing and confrontation with contemporary thought through the new creation of feature and short films, exhibitions, sound works and film performances.

Silvia Maglioni & Graeme Thomson dedicate to this project the title On Geological Time. In their study they have selected authors and film collaborations whose works are able to reflect and narrate the geological era from new and different perspectives through the use of different techniques.
