From 17th to 19th of April 2020, the guests of Dimora delle Balze will have the opportunity to join a photographic lab held by the Sicilian artist Francesco Faraci.

Journey story memory is the title dedicated to this workshop. We’ve been inspired by the excellence of Italian photography Ferdinando Scianna who, through his artistic language, offers to the public “a chance to tell the story of human affairs”.

The same footsteps are followed by the protagonist of our lab, Francesco Faraci, specialized in documentary photography and social reportage.

Francesco Faraci was born in Palermo and after his humanistic studies, he discovered photography as the main mean of expression, so he began to get around the island looking for stories to be told. When you meet a photographer like Francesco, you start looking at the world in a different way: your eyes become wider and you become more attentive to the outlines of things, to the shape and what changes. Several of his reportages have been published in national and foreign magazines (Il Sabato di Repubblica, La Repubblica, Il Manifesto, Time Magazine, Globe and Mail, The Guardian).

The guests who will participate to the photographic lab, will be accompanied by the artist along the streets of Syracuse and Ortigia to discover this land, that has much to tell and to offer.

I feel photography as if I were writing a single unique book. On my life and on that of others, and which thus assumes a universal meaning. Starting from the bottom to reach your limits. I am interested in photography that can speak, smells of earth and brackish.
